Becoming a photographer and making an impact with your images sounds like a dream, but how do you even start? Taking those first steps can be daunting but two conservation photographers, Dave Showalter and Brooke McDonough are here to help you through it. From mentorships and communities to projects that make a mark – they will talk about how to gain traction in photography and start working towards your goals. Each session is designed to be interactive with the students and incorporate feedback for their work. Join us in creating projects that matter to you and finding a tangible path towards your goals. 

Four 90-minute Sessions /All times are EST (United States and Canada)

May 3rd, 2021: 8 – 9:30pm EST

The first step: You want to move people with images? Great, you’ve already taken that first step! In this session, Brooke and Dave will talk about their photography journeys and finding a community.  After discussing the importance of community – we will work to foster that in this Summit group. We’ll ask you to share a photo that tells something about you and your photography journey.

May 5th, 2021: 8 – 9:30pm EST

Ideas into action: What do you have to say? In this session we will talk about your goals, how to start working towards them, and how to turn your ideas into action.

May 10th, 2021: 8 – 9:30pm EST 

Photographic passion projects: Dave and Brooke will share their experience with long-term, in-depth photography projects, what they learned from them, and how they made an impact. Each student will then receive personalized feedback. We’ll close the session with an open group discussion. 

May 12th, 2021: 8 – 9:30pm EST

Your Storytelling Toolbox: Dave and Brooke talk about essential skills for pursuing projects and gaining traction. We will also brainstorm stories and next steps for your projects and goals.
