Jim Richardson

Jim Richardson is a photographer for National Geographic Magazine and a contributing editor for its sister publication, TRAVELER Magazine. Richardson has photographed more than fifty stories for National Geographic.

Richardson’s work has taken him around the world, from the tops of volcanic peaks to below the surface of the soil that provides our food, from the Arctic to the Antarctic and many places in between. ABC News Nightline produced a story about the long process of assembling a National Geographic coverage by following Richardson in the field and at National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C.

In addition to his color photography, Richardson has built a distinguished body of black-and-white documentary work about rural Kansas life.  His audiovisual presentation, “Reflections From a Wide Spot in the Road,” has toured internationally.  His 40 years of photographing life in the Kansas town of Cuba, population 230, was published in National Geographic and featured twice by CBS News Sunday Morning, most recently in May 2004.   His 1979 study of adolescence, “High School USA,” is now considered a photo essay classic and is used in college classrooms.

Richardson was named Kansan of the Year in 2007 by the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas.  In 2015 he was honored by his fellow National Geographic photographers as their “Photographer’s Photographer.” And in 2017 Kansas State University bestowed an honorary doctorate for his work in cultural and environmental communications. He is co-founder of Eyes On Earth, an educational collaborative seeking to inspire next generation environmental photographers.

Jim’s career at National Geographic magazine and National Geographic Traveler spanned over 35 years, during which time he produced over 50 stories.  His stories ranged from poignant location based essays to complex scientific and geographical issues coverage. He’s valued for his compelling storytelling and his deft command of technical skills. Beyond his picture making he’s also highly regarded as a presenter and teacher. His lectures draw corporate clients to international venues. His topics ranged widely from world food, small towns and light pollution to include his much sought after whisky tastings.

Whether discussing documentary, landscape, night sky or iPhone photography, he brings a down-to-earth practicality to his lectures that is as enjoyable as it is instructive.

Michael Forsberg

Mike is a senior fellow with the International League of Conservation Photographers who has focused his career on North America’s Great Plains, its prairie wildlife, and watersheds. His work has appeared in National Geographic and Outdoor Photographer, and his books on On Ancient Wings and Great Plains – America’s Lingering Wild have been turned into documentary films for PBS. Mike is co-founder of the Platte Basin Timelapse Project, and currently serves as faculty with the University of Nebraska.

Jean Fruth

Jean Fruth is an internationally recognized photographer, filmmaker and visual storyteller whose work harnesses the power of images to inspire change. She is the co-founder of two nonprofit organizations, Grassroots Baseball and SEE HER BE HER, which uses sports to empower youth, underserved communities, and women globally.

Jean does more than take pictures.  She tells stories — of vibrant personalities, local cultures, and distinctive communities.  From a small darkroom to the most iconic stadiums flooded with lights, Jean’s trajectory as one of photography’s preeminent visual storytellers has taken her on a round-the-horn tour of the world’s most indelible landmarks – from the world of baseball to the world at large.  Sports have always been Jean’s most compelling subject, and from her earliest days in sports photography, she covered everything from wrestling to sailing to basketball — and on any given Friday, she could be found taking full advantage of those Friday night lights, shooting northern California’s storied football rivalries.

Soon Jean was called up to the big leagues herself, as she spent nearly a decade shooting the crown jewels of Bay Area sports — the Giants, the A’s, the 49ers.  Her portfolio quickly expanded when she was invited to Cooperstown and the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum, where she helped build the museum’s archive and bring to life the story of baseball.  America’s most eminent historical institutions – including the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and the Smithsonian — have featured her work.

Jean made her film debut in 2024 as Director and Producer of SEE HER BE HER and is the Author/Photographer of three books in the Grassroots Baseball Series: Where Legends Begin (2019), Route 66 (2022) and See Her Be Her (2024). Jean is honored to be designated by Sony as one of its select Sony Artisans of Imagery.  In recognition of her impact as a visual storyteller and changemaker, she was honored with the 2025 United Nations International Photographic Council Achievement Award.

Andy Kuno

Andy Kuno is a San Francisco based sports photographer. He cut his teeth in the 90’s freelancing for wire services and newspapers which eventually lead to his position as the team photographer for the San Francisco Giants (1996 – current). The native San Franciscan enjoys capturing action, emotions and portraits while continually chasing light.

Steve Fine

Steve Fine was the Director of Photography at Sports Illustrated from 1996 until 2013. Prior to that he was deputy photo editor serving under the legendary Heinz Kluetmeier. More recently he spent six years as picture and sports editor at Flipboard, a mobile news aggregator. Steve worked at The New York Times from 1983-92, first as sports picture editor and then as deputy photo editor under Kathy Ryan at the Sunday Magazine. Currently he is a digital news curator at Facebook. 

Deanne Fitzmaurice

As a Pulitzer Prize-winning documentary photographer and filmmaker, Deanne is most known for her visual storytelling and unique ability to go behind the scenes to discover and convey personal, intimate and emotional stories through images. With a focus on contemporary culture, Fitzmaurice, a Nikon Ambassador, represents a wide variety of publications, including creating content for National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, and many other respected outlets. Deanne has won awards from American Photography, Pictures of the Year, Communication Arts, PDN Photo Annual, NPPA Best of Photojournalism, UNICEF and the Casey Medal. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Deanne worked as a staff photographer at the San Francisco Chronicle for 18 years and is now represented by National Geographic Image Collection.

John McDonough

Based in southern California, John W. McDonough is one of the main contributors to Sports Illustrated. Before working at Sports Illustrated, John freelanced for SPORT Magazine and worked at the Los Angeles Times and Arizona Republic as a staff photographer.

Dave Showalter

Conservation photographer and author Dave Showalter is based in Colorado and focused on the American West. Dave has published three books – the new book: Living River – The Promise Of The Mighty Colorado, Sage Spirit, The American West at A Crossroads by Braided River (2015); and Prairie Thunder by Skyline Press (2007). Dave’s photographs and articles have appeared in numerous publications, including Audubon, Conservation Biology, Outside, Outdoor Photographer, National Parks Magazine, High Country News, Wilderness, Colorado Life and elsewhere. In partnership with Braided River, Dave’s exhibit “Colorado: Sage Spirit and Roaring Rivers” was displayed at Denver International Airport 2018/2019 and viewed by over 2 million people. Dave is faculty with the Summit Series of Photo Workshops, a Senior Fellow Photographer in the International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP), and works in partnership with numerous conservation groups, including Audubon Rockies, The Nature Conservancy, and Trout Unlimited Headwaters (Colorado River).
