Your workshop Guide

Welcome to your Summit Workshop! This page covers everything you need to know to make the most of your experience. From on-location shoots to portfolio reviews, critiques, and networking, here’s what to expect and how to prepare.

On location shoots

Each day you’ll have the chance to shoot something new. You may rotate between instructors and peers, giving you a variety of perspectives.

  • Meeting Details: We’ll send your shooting location and group meeting time via email. So email is your best friend throughout the workshop!

  • Carpooling: We’ll carpool to each location. Volunteers drive, but if you don’t have a car or prefer not to drive, we’ll pair you with someone who does. Remember to thank them!

  • Groups: Once split, your instructor and group will guide you through the day’s shoot.

Image Critiques

Our critiques are designed to foster growth, not competition.

  • You’ll hear feedback from faculty members aimed at helping you improve.

  • All critiques are anonymous, allowing you to focus fully on learning.

Portfolio Reviews

Take the opportunity to sit down one-on-one with an instructor to review your images, either past work or from the workshop itself.

Tips for a successful portfolio review:

  1. Prepare 15–20 images ahead of time.

  2. Sign up for a review time via the link we’ll send. Start with one instructor.

  3. Have your images ready when your review begins.

  4. Locate your instructor in the meeting room, they’ll be meeting with multiple students.

  5. Each session lasts 20 minutes. When time is up, you’ll switch to the next student.

Transportation

A car is not required for our workshops, but it’s recommended for our sports and wildlife workshops. We’ll be driving back and forth from the hotel to shooting locations. If you don’t have a car, no worries, we coordinate carpools and will make sure you have a ride for all workshop activities.

Meals

  • The days will start early and end late. We will be sure to break for lunch each day but be sure to eat breakfast, bring snacks and drink lots of water.
  • Dinners will depend on the day. Sometimes when we are all traveling back from a shooting location we will stop and get food. Otherwise, find some other students and pick a place around the hotel to eat. You can go to the restaurant or bring it back to enjoy together!

Networking

One of the most valuable aspects of a Summit Workshop is connecting with peers and instructors.

  • Ask questions, share experiences, and learn from those around you!

  • These connections can lead to new insights, collaborations, and lifelong friendships in the photography community.
